S 149th St & S 150th St Water Main Replacement

Project Overview

Design Phase:

The existing 6” cast iron water main along S 149th St and along S 150th St is undersized and has reached its useful life. The looped water main along 150th will be replaced from Macadam Rd to the Cul-de-sac. The semi-looped line along 149th will be converted to a fully looped line and will be replaced from Macadam Rd to 57th Ave S. The improvements will see the installation of more than 1,200 feet of 8” ductile iron water main, improving water quality and fire flow availability. Along with various minor improvements, both streets will be fully repaved at the conclusion of the project.

 

Construction Phase:

Started April 2nd. Along with the mainline being replaced, water services to individual homes will be replaced as well. The new water pipe on S 149th Street is in place and has successfully passed all purity and pressure tests. Meanwhile, the contractor has completed installing new water pipe on S 150th Street and is now preparing for similar quality tests as 149th. After this testing individual services will be swapped to the new main. As part of this process, you can expect to receive a water shutoff notification with exact details of the shutoff.

Note on S 150th Street: Before individual services are connected, the contractor must first complete a tie-in at Macadam and 150th during a water shutdown, which could result in a longer service interruption. Each household will receive specific details about the duration of the shutoff.

Once the new connections are in place, the project will move into its final stages, including cleanup and an asphalt overlay. Construction is expected to be completed and accepted by the City in Q3 of 2025.
